This past Sunday, Troop 504 hosted a first aid event inviting all neighboring troops, and it was a resounding success!

Other scouting troops from all over North East Ohio came to visit and participate in our first aid meet, where scouts would have a hands on and fun time learning about different hurry cases and emergency procedures that hopefully you won’t encounter.

Simulations ranged from amputations, punctures and severe wounds to minor cuts and bruises. Each simulation was scored based on a rubric and each patrol was awarded a certain amount of points based on how well the patrol did. The patrols in the top 3 places would get a prize.

From focusing on rushing to stop severe bleeding to trying to calm the patient down, different groups took different approaches to each situation. While some patrols focused on making the patient feel comfortable, some others focused on the issue at hand. In these situations, there may not be one “correct answer”. As long as the patient is cared and accounted for until further help arrives.

We would like to extend gratitude to the Solon High School drama department for providing actors and makeup and making the event really come to life. We additionally would like to thank the Troop 504 PLC for helping organize the event and all other troops who attended for this fun event. We are looking forward to seeing you at next year’s first aid event!
